- Google Reader had the "like" feature since July, 2009. Why didn't they release a widget for blogs to showcase the like count on each post? This widget would've also given a way to users not on Google Reader to showcase their appreciation for a blog post.
- When Google finally released +1 they didn't integrate it with the Google Reader like count. So, now there are multiple ways for users on the Google ecosystem to like/recommend a piece of content. Why?

Google is so massive with so many products - it'd have to be super central management if they had managed the integration with reader

ReplyDelete@grishma: They could've launched with the current brand name - Google +1 - and replaced the Google Reader "like" feature with it. Right now there are two social recommendation counts in the Google ecosystem - Google +1's and Google Reader likes - with the latter not available publicly as a widget.

ReplyDeleteIts advent killed away all the other web RSS readers, and some non-web ones; would be a sad day if it goes away.
Harsh, not a sign of shutting shop, but mostly of product manager working in silos. Everyone doing whatever they want in their 20% time.
